NCIAVHR Discusses Human Rights Developments and Protection Mechanisms with Local and Security Authorities in Shabwah

Today, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) held a high-level meeting with senior officials from the local administration and security services in Shabwah Governorate. The meeting aimed to assess the human rights situation in the governorate and explore ways to activate protection mechanisms and strengthen the rule of law.

At the outset, Abdulrabah Hashlah, Secretary-General of the Local Council in Shabwah, welcomed the Commission’s delegation and reaffirmed the governorate’s commitment to upholding legal frameworks and prioritizing human rights, despite the numerous challenges it faces. He praised the vital role played by the NCIAVHR in monitoring and investigating human rights issues. He emphasized the importance of continued coordination between the Commission and government entities to ensure the law’s implementation.

Judge Dr. Dhiya Muhayriz, a member of the NCIAVHR, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to monitoring the human rights situation in Shabwah and fulfilling its mandate to investigate all alleged violations within its temporal, geographic, and thematic jurisdiction. She underscored the need for collaborative efforts between the Commission and local and security authorities to improve detainee conditions, ensure victims’ access to justice, and prevent violations of the law and human rights.

As part of its visit to Shabwah, the Commission will carry out a series of activities, including a specialized workshop involving stakeholders concerned with human rights issues, official meetings with judicial and security authorities, and field visits to relevant sites.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governors Ahmed Al-Dughari and Fahd Al-Khalifi, Police Chief Brigadier General Fouad Al-Nassi, Political Security Chief Brigadier General Abdullah Barman, and Foreign Ministry Advisor Saleh Al-Shaairah, Director of the Ministry’s Office of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
