The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations to Human Rights launched today, Tuesday, in the temporary capital Aden, a workshop for its field researchers on artificial intelligence and its role in advancing human rights, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

During the opening session, the Vice Chairperson of the Commission, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, stressed the importance of keeping pace with technological developments and benefiting from artificial intelligence tools in monitoring, documentation, and information verification processes. He noted that such tools contribute to enhancing the efficiency of human rights work and strengthening the capacities of field researchers, while adhering to the professional and ethical standards associated with the use of these technologies.

The three-day training programme, attended by 40 field researchers, includes specialized sessions on the use of artificial intelligence tools in human rights research and analysis, open-source investigations (OSINT), and mechanisms for verifying information, images, and videos. It also covers digital security, data analysis, and the detection of patterns related to hate speech and coordinated campaigns.

The programme further includes capacity-building sessions on mental health, psychosocial recovery, and strengthening institutional dialogue, as part of the Commission’s approach to professionally and psychologically support researchers and enable them to perform their duties in work environments associated with violations and trauma.
