NCIAVHR Discusses Human Rights Situation with Shabwa Governor

Today, members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) discussed with the Governor of Shabwa, Mr. Awad Al-Wazir the human rights situation in Shabwa governorate.

At the meeting, attended by the leaders of the security services, the governor discussed with the Commission’s team a number of issues related to human rights in the governorate, stressing the interest of the governorate leadership and the competent authorities to preserve human rights in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

The governor of Marib renewed the local authority’s interest to provide all necessary facilities for the Commission to carry out its tasks and work to the fullest, and to be fully prepared to respond to any inquiries made by the Commission.

For his part, the Commission Deputy Chairperson, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, stressed the importance that the local authorities activate self-monitoring tools, hold people who committed crimes accountable, and refer those found guilty of violations to the judiciary.

Judge Al-Mashdali also reviewed the field visit program of the Commission members to Shabwa governorate, which will include meetings with the leaders of the security services, examining the conditions of detainees in the central prison and criminal investigation in the governorate, and investigating a number of cases.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of Shabwa Police, Brigadier General Fouad Al-Nasi, the Director of the Political Security Office Branch, Brigadier General Ali Sweilem, and members of the Commission, Judge Nasser Al-Awdhali, Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari, and Dr. Dhyia Muhairez.
