NCIAVHR Delegates Meet with Aden Security Deputy and Conduct Field Inspections of Detention Facilities

Today, a team from the Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) held a meeting with Brigadier General Abu Bakr Jabr, the Deputy Director of Aden Security. This occurred during the Commission’s ongoing field visits to various detention and prison facilities within the governorate. The objective was to review recent developments and assess their impact on the human rights conditions of prisoners and detainees.

During the discussion, Judge Dr. Diaa Muhairez, a Commission member, raised several issues and reviewed case files currently under assessment. She proposed recommendations to improve detainee conditions and detention standards, emphasizing the importance of legal compliance, protection of detainees’ rights, and adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks.

Brigadier General Abu Bakr Jabr appreciated the Commission’s efforts and its role in safeguarding human rights under its legal mandate. He affirmed his willingness to facilitate the Commission’s activities and support its tasks.

Following the meeting, Judge Jihad Abdulrasoul and Judge Dr. Diaa Muhairez led field inspections of several detention sites, including the Criminal Investigation Prison and the detention centers at Dar Saad and Khormaksar Police Stations. They examined detainee conditions, verified compliance with legal procedures, and evaluated the protection of detainee rights.

During these visits, the team conducted interviews with inmates to assess their conditions, the legality of their detention, and the quality of services provided, aligned with humanitarian standards, national laws, and international conventions. The Criminal Investigation Prison housed 282 detainees, while Dar Saad and Khormaksar Police Stations each held 17 detainees.

At the end of the inspections, the Commission recommended that security authorities take immediate legal actions to resolve detainees’ cases in accordance with the law.

Attending the visits were Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Sakrah, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department; Lieutenant Abdulmajid Al-Jawhari, Deputy Director of Dar Saad Police Station; and Lieutenant Colonel Nasr Hassan, Deputy Director of Khormaksar Police Station.
