Human Rights Council Adopts New Resolution Unanimously to Support Yemen’s NCIAVHR

The United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, during its 60th session on Wednesday, unanimously adopted draft resolution (A/HRC/60/L.26) concerning the provision of technical assistance and capacity-building to the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) in Yemen.
This resolution falls within the framework of the Human Rights Council’s commitment to supporting independent national mechanisms and strengthening their capacities to document violations and establish systems of accountability and justice, in accordance with international human rights standards and international humanitarian law.
The resolution emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the National Commission and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the provision of the necessary technical and logistical support to enable the Commission to continue its work efficiently and effectively, while enhancing its tools for investigation, monitoring, and reporting.
The Council also commended the progress made by the Commission over the past year, including the expansion of its field operations, improvements in documentation mechanisms, and collaboration with civil society organizations, as well as its adherence to international standards in performing its duties.
The unanimous adoption of this resolution during the 60th session reflects the continued confidence of the international community in the independence and competence of the Commission, and its renewed support for its efforts to promote respect for human rights and combat impunity in Yemen.
