NCIAVHR Engages with Survivors’ Support Fund on Protection Mechanisms for Women in Yemen
Geneva | October 2, 2025
Today, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with the Survivors’ Support Fund for victims of sexual and gender-based violence in conflict, on the sidelines of the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Opening the discussion, Fund Executive Director Ms. Esther Dimas and Operations Director Ms. Maya Sha commended the Commission’s courage and significant role in documenting and investigating violations against women in Yemen. They acknowledged the cultural and social barriers that often obstruct victim outreach and limit the reporting of sexual violence, affirming that Yemen is among the Fund’s top priorities in the coming phase, based on findings from a study on the situation of female survivors.
Commission members Judge Sabah Al-Alwani and Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari shared updates on the state of women’s rights in Yemen and the Commission’s recent investigations. They underscored the urgent need to expand monitoring and documentation, particularly in cases of sexual violence linked to displacement, forced mobility, and diminishing protection systems.
Both parties explored opportunities to strengthen support and protection for victims, ensuring compensation, redress, and dignified living conditions. Discussions also covered ways to enhance the Commission’s capacity to investigate gender-based human rights violations more effectively.
