NCIAVHR Meets with Yemenia Airways Chairman as Part of Investigation into Sana’a Airport Targeting
Aden | July 29, 2025
As part of its ongoing investigation into the targeting of Sana’a International Airport, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with Captain Nasser Mahmoud Mohammed, the Chairman of Yemenia Airways.
During the meeting, Captain Nasser provided a detailed account of the damage sustained by the airport facilities due to airstrikes carried out by the Israeli Air Force. He confirmed that the strikes caused extensive destruction to significant parts of the airport, including four Yemenia Airways aircraft that were on the runway at the time. He also highlighted the serious impact these attacks had on state assets and civil aviation services.
Previously, the Commission had met with Captain Saleh bin Nahid, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, who affirmed that the airstrikes targeted critical civilian infrastructure. He noted that these attacks rendered Sana’a International Airport completely out of service, resulting in severe humanitarian consequences for hundreds of civilians—such as patients, pilgrims, and individuals stranded abroad—especially given the lack of alternative, safe flight routes for the northern and central regions.
Commission members Judge Dr. Mohammed Tulaiyan and Judge Dr. Dhiya Muhayriz emphasized that this incident constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law. They confirmed that the Commission continues to collect testimonies, gather relevant documentation, and record the material and humanitarian consequences in preparation for formal inclusion in the ongoing investigation.
