NCIAVHR Discusses Human Rights Situation with Marib Local and Security Authority Leadership

Sunday, members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) discussed the human rights situation with the leadership of the local and security authority in the Marib governorate.

The meeting, which comes at the beginning of the Commission’s team’s visit to the Marib governorate, was attended by the deputy governor, Sheikh Ali al-Fatimi, the Marib police director, Brigadier General Yahya Ali Hameed, and the director of the Political Security Service, Brigadier General Naji Hatrom.

In the meeting, the deputy Mr. Al-Fatimi affirmed the interest of the local authority to maintain cooperation with the Commission to provide all possible assistance and welcome any criticism. At the same time, Mr. Al-Fatimi touched on the efforts of the governorate to activate and support the judicial and security agencies in the governorate.

For his part, the Commission Deputy Chairperson, Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, reviewed the program of the Commission field visit to Marib and emphasized that the objective of their meetings with the law enforcement and judicial agencies is to activate the rule of law.

Judge Al-Mashdali referred to the Commission’s response to the demands of the local authority and the victims by opening an office in Marib governorate to facilitate the access of victims and reporting of violations, pointing to the Commission’s confidence in the local authority to provide the necessary facilities for the Commission’s mission.

In this context, the Commission’s team carried out field visits to the central prison building in the governorate and the Women’s Prison and was briefed on the conditions of prisoners and detainees. The team also listened to the prisoners’ legal demands and assessed the level of economic and social rights guaranteed to them in accordance with national and international laws.
