NCIAVHR Meets with the Ambassador for Human Rights and the Middle East and External Relations Departments at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Chairman and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met today, Wednesday, in The Hague, with the Human Rights Ambassador and the responsible for Yemen file in the Middle East and North Africa Department, as well as the Multilateral Organizations and Human Rights Department at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the meeting, the Commission Chairman, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Muflehi, presented an explanation of the results of the Commission’s investigations, as stated in the eleventh periodic report, which covers the period from August 2022 to the end of July 2023. Mr. Al-Muflehi also highlighted the important mechanisms followed by the Commission in accessing the areas and victims and the international standards adopted in achieving its objectives throughout the previous period.

The Commission members also discussed the current human rights situation in Yemen and the patterns of violations suffered by the victims in recent times. They emphasized the role of the Commission in achieving accountability, redressing the harm suffered by male and female victims, and providing victims with justice, as a prelude to achieving a comprehensive and effective peace that includes the participation of the victims and fulfills their demands.

On their part, Mr. Veem Khairnes, the Ambassador for Human Rights, Mr. Haida Richardson, the Policy Specialist in the Department of Multilateral Organizations and Human Rights, and Mrs. Florentine Outin, the Yemen File Officer in the Middle East and North Africa Department, emphasized the importance of such meetings with the Commission, clarifying the reality of the situation in Yemen, expressing their admiration and support for the work carried out by the Commission’s staff during the past period and until today, and confirming the impact of that on achieving a just and peaceful settlement, which is supported by the Netherlands.
