NCIAVHR Discusses Mechanisms for Joint Cooperation with the International Committee for Missing Persons

The Chairman and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met today, Friday, in the Dutch city of The Hague, with the Deputy Director of the International Committee for Missing Persons (ICMP) and the Organization’s Policy Director, Mr. Andreas Kleiser, and the organization’s Legal Officer in the Middle East, Nawal Ramadan.

In the meeting, joint cooperation mechanisms in the areas of training and capacity building and benefiting from the work of the anthropological laboratory in identifying the remains of a number of missing persons whose events are being investigated by the Commission were discussed.

In the meeting held at the headquarters of the International Committee of the Missing Persons (ICMP), the Commission’s Chairman, Judge Ahmed Al-Muflehi, provided an explanation of the nature of the Commission’s work related to forced disappearances, investigation, and uncovering the truth about the fate of a number of missing persons.

The committee delegation also familiarized themselves with the experience of work related to missing persons and victims of disappearances, as well as knowing their fate, the legal framework through which the organization operates and the legal policies followed, and its areas of work in cooperation with countries and civil society in knowing the fate of missing persons in several European, American, African, and Asian countries.

The aim of the national delegation’s visit was to benefit from the reports issued by the International Committee, the detailed database of the families of the missing, and the work of the advanced laboratory that conducts anthropological examinations of the remains of the missing and identifies their genes.
