NCIAVHR Meets US Ambassador to Geneva

The Chairperson and members of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations to Human Rights (“NCIAVHR”) met with the US Ambassador to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Ms. Michelle Taylor.

During the meeting, the Commission’s Chairperson and members of reviewed the field activities carried out in terms investigation of human rights violations in Yemen, the challenges it faces, and its need for various support to sustain its mission, stressing the Commission’s keenness to ensure that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.

For her part, Ambassador Taylor expressed the US State Department’s feeling of the importance presence of the national mechanism to help monitor the human rights situation in Yemen and ensure that there is no impunity, which is the best way to promote human rights, and it is important to raise its capabilities for Yemen.

Ms. Taylor further emphasized her keenness on the need to listen to the Commission through an interactive dialogue in the Human Rights Council to ensure that the Commission reviews its annual report at the session of the Human Rights Council in an interactive dialogue along with the report issued by the High Commissioner on the human rights situation in Yemen. Ms. Taylor also confirmed the importance to provide technical assistance to the Commission.
