The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations to Human Rights (“NCIAVHR”) held a meeting at the United Nations building in Geneva with ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions of the European Union countries as part of the activities and meetings it is conducting on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Human Rights Council.
In the meeting, which brought together the Chairperson and members of the National Commission with representatives of the missions of the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Belgium, and specialists in human rights departments in the missions, the assessment of the human rights situation in Yemen, recent developments, and the impact of the implementation of the truce on violations against civilians were discussed.
They also discussed the efforts of the National Commission to reach the victims and investigate different violations witnessed by the cities of Yemen during the last period, and the role of the European Union in supporting the Commission to continue its mission during the coming period.
During the meeting, representatives of the diplomatic missions affirmed their appreciation for the serious work carried out by the Commission in investigation, conducting direct interviews with witnesses and victims, and the impact of its work in addressing grave violations and breaches of human rights. Thus, the Yemeni situation is closely observed, as it is a priority of the European Union and its keenness to promote and protect human rights in Yemen, and to support national mechanisms concerned with redress for victims and preservation of human rights.
