On the occasion of World Children\u2019s Day, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) announced new statistics on grave violations committed against children across various Yemeni governorates. According to the Commission\u2019s documentation, a total of 5,700 children have been affected.<\/p>\n
The data shows that direct attacks on civilians constituted the largest share of these violations, with 3,816 children reported killed or injured \u2014 a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians and requires their protection during conflict.<\/p>\n
The Commission also documented 1,368 cases of child recruitment, where children were pushed into combat roles. This practice is considered one of the six most serious violations prohibited under international law and national legislation.<\/p>\n
Regarding the remnants of war, the Commission recorded 708 child casualties \u2014 either killed or injured \u2014 due to landmines and improvised explosive devices. Additionally, 125 cases of extrajudicial killings were reported.<\/p>\n
Other documented violations included attacks on economic and social rights, with 240 cases of deprivation and discrimination in access to education.<\/p>\n
The Commission emphasized that these figures reflect the alarming persistence of violations against children. It renewed its call on all parties to the conflict to fully comply with international humanitarian law and human rights principles, and to end all abuses targeting children. The Commission affirmed its continued commitment to monitoring and documenting violations to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.<\/p>\n
