Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, Vice-Chairman of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR), along with Commission Member Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari, today, met with the Governor of Al Mahrah, Mr. Mohammed Ali Yasser, to discuss the state of human rights in the governorate as part of the Commission’s field visit program to several governorates.<\/p>\n
Vice-Chairman Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali explained the purpose of the Commission’s first visit to Al Mahrah, highlighting the importance of coordination and cooperation between the Commission and the local authorities in Al Mahrah. This governorate has a unique human rights situation, making it crucial to ensure access to it. Judge Al-Mashdali outlined the visit\u2019s agenda and shared key observations made by the Commission during visits to the central prison and the Criminal Investigation Department prison, and their meetings with the judiciary, discussing major issues and solutions.<\/p>\n
Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser welcomed the Commission\u2019s visit, affirming the local authority\u2019s commitment to closely monitoring the human rights situation, considering the Commission\u2019s observations, and enhancing roles and responsibilities.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, attended by Deputy Governor Hussein Al-Masadi, Governor Yasser reviewed significant achievements in the developmental and humanitarian sectors undertaken by the local authorities. Mr. Yasser emphasized the unique situation of the governorate, which includes a large influx of internally displaced persons, significant numbers of refugees from the Horn of Africa, and issues related to smuggling. He encouraged the Commission to document the social rights and services being delivered to Al Mahrah.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the Commission met with Faiz Ali Suhail, Director General of the Office of Social Affairs and Labor in the governorate, discussing the status of organizations working in the human rights field.
