The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) conducted a workshop on Thursday in the coastal city of Al-Mukha in Taiz governorate. The workshop aimed to emphasize the importance of cooperation between the Commission and civil society organizations in ensuring the protection and promotion of human rights. A total of 28 organizations, unions, and entities working in the field of human rights from the western coast districts participated.

During the workshop, Deputy Chairman of the Commission Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali explained that the workshop aimed to strengthen the efforts of both the Commission and civil society in reaching out to victims and protecting human rights. It also aimed to understand the nature of civil society’s work in the western coast districts of Taiz and Al-Hodaidah, which are associated with different categories of victims.

Commission members Judge Nasser Al-Awdhali and Judge Ishraq Al-Muqtari presented a detailed overview of the Commission’s work in investigating human rights violations and its significant achievements during the past period. Ms. Al-Muqtari also shared the Commission’s vision for working with civil society.

The mini working groups formed by the participants discussed the context of human rights in these districts, and the interventions provided by civil society in areas such as monitoring, awareness-raising, advocacy, healthcare support (physical and psychological), and economic support. They also proposed future networking mechanisms with the Commission teams to protect and promote human rights, reduce violations, and activate accountability.
