NCIAVHR Discusses Documentation Role in Human Rights-Based Peacebuilding with Senior Advisor to the UN Envoy to Yemen

Today, in the office of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) in the interim capital, Aden, members of the Commission discussed with the senior advisor to the UN envoy to Yemen, Ms. Al-Zahraa Al-Naqi, the role of the process of documenting and investigating human rights violations in building a comprehensive and effective peace based on the participation of victims to ensure their legal rights.

In the meeting, Ms. Al-Zahraa explained the importance of the mandate of national mechanisms working with documentation and accountability in establishing the basics of an effective peace process that guarantees the rights and participation of all components, including civil society, women, victims, and the parties. She also reviewed the Commission’s work mechanisms and the components of the legal file.

Members of the Commission, Sabah Alwani, Ishraq Al-Maqtari, and Nasser Al-Awdhali, reviewed the efforts made by the Commission during its nine years of mandate in preparing for transitional justice by documenting and investigating all violations, identifying perpetrators, and drafting legal files in accordance with professional and objective standards of neutrality to ensure justice for victims and that perpetrators do not escape punishment.
